The snow was gleaming on the ground,
Trees white with snow all around.
As she awoke with the morning sun,
A conspiracy had already begun.

She checked her babies were sleeping there,
She hugged them close to her spotted hair.
The sun was up now the sky was blue,
The cubs awoke and replied with a mew.

The mother had left them just for a while,
Hunting at dawn is snow leopard style.
When they turned they were scared and stunned,
It was an awful combination, man and gun!

Miles away she heard a bang,
Immediately her thoughts turned to her young.
Faster and faster she sped through the snow,
Not for a second did she let herself slow.

Then she saw it she just stood and stared,
Her limp dead babies strung in the air.
This tale is glum but sadly true,
These beautiful creatures can be saved by you.
