Oh how I miss my Mom and Dad,
they're in a better land;
they lived for God with all they had,
and now they hold His hand.
But they had ways, as we all do,
and now I understand;
they had to raise a stubborn crew,
eight kids to reprimand!

I really wish that they were back
so they could hear me say;
the loving words I kept intact
before they went away.
It wasn't that I didn't care,
respect I did apply;
my words of love were hard to spare
'cause I was mighty shy.

I never could express that word....
called love-we all lay claim,
no better parents did I deserve,
no better friendships came.
When other parents scream and scold,
they'll suffer more than kids,
and good results will not unfold
of what their sanction bids.

But Mom and Dad were both in tune,
and had the best of styles;
instead of fuss and growl and fume,
they spanked us kids with smiles!
They did just what they had in mind;
their chore was not in vain;
the hurt was planned for our behind,
not them to bear the pain!

When they spoke firm with grinning smile,
it came quite clear to me;
"to spare the rod and spoil the child",
was not their "cup of tea"!
Those times are gone and thoughts I store
adds much to my regret;
that I didn't say: "I love you" more
before their time was met.

But when I pray, I tell them,
as I say it to the Lord
for I know that they have joined Him
and all will hear my word.
And now I say to you, "Please Heed;
don't throw your chance away,
but tell your Mom and Dad with speed:
"You love them every day!"
