The cross stood stark and cruel,
Upon Golgotha's Hill...
The milling crowd of mockers,
Were suddenly very still.

The King of Kings, and Lord of Lords,
Breathed a tortured sigh...
"Forgive them, Father," He prayed.
It was His fervent last cry.

Who did this thing to God's own Son?
To this Man who had never sinned?
Was it envy and stupidity,
That they never can rescind?

My heart is caught in sorrow's grip,
He died for my sins, too...
And I felt the sting of the whip,
As it slashed His body through and through!

Oh,Lord of the Universe,
I bow in humble prayer...
And I thank you for my Jesus,
And His constant loving care.

I bow before my Savior,
Who gave His life away,
To redeem every sinner,
Who has ever gone astray.

Look up, to Jesus on the cross,
How He suffered on that tree...
And He arose, the first of many,
He is every believer's guarantee!

When we look to Jesus,
And His commandments we obey...
"God's grace is sufficient"
And all our sins are washed away!
